Follow along for updates on the progress of WINTERS! I share interesting tidbits found while researching the 18th century, particularly history of science, Ottoman Egypt, and wherever else worldbuilding research takes me.

The Arcanist: a Winters novel

After losing a disastrous war, an artificer returns to lead a resistance movement against an undead king and his army of necromancers. Years of war have hardened the cynical artificer, but she must learn to trust her companions if they are to prevent the undead king from becoming the new god of death.

WINTERS refers to the overall creative project, including research and worldbuilding, relating to Tess Winters, the main character of THE ARCANIST and ART & ARTIFICE.

Six figures on a dark background. The five in the foreground are in action poses with various weapons. From left to right: A gray haired man wields two antique pistols; a man with long hair in monk-style clothing holds a staff and wears an eyepatch; a woman wearing black wears gauntlets with claws; a woman with firey hair holds a flaming scimitar; and a woman wearing a tricorn hat shoots lightning from an antique pistol. Looming behind them is the spectral figure of an undead mummy. The art is stylized and looks like a movie poster or book cover.

A circular engraving-style image of a medieval knight on horseback in black and white. A castle is in the background. The knight holds a lance and the horse also wears armor and heraldic clothing.

The Pooka Quartet

Long ago and far away, the Faerie King kidnaps a princess before her wedding. Her prince must find a way into the land of Faerie to rescue her. His quest leads him to dragons, giants, and the lake of dreams, until he finds an unlikely ally in a faerie called the Pooka. Will this faerie known for mischief and malice help the prince regain his true love?

THE FAERIE KING is the first of four YA fantasy novellas that blends fairy tales, Classical myths, and medieval romances. In each, the Pooka meddles with the affairs of mortals, leading them on adventures that turn ordinary princes and princesses into heroes.

WIP status: Drafted, waiting for revision.
